Mr Matthew Welck holds a private foot and ankle clinic every Friday morning at HCA The Wellington Hospital’s Elstree Waterfront outpatient centre in Borehamwood. The centre has free on-site parking and on-site imaging, including MRI, ultrasound, X-ray and standing (weight-bearing) CT, so many investigations can be arranged in the same building as your consultation.

Mr Welck is a Consultant Orthopaedic Foot & Ankle Surgeon at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH), Stanmore, and Honorary Associate Clinical Professor at University College London (UCL). He has a particular research interest in weight-bearing CT, which shows the bones of the foot and ankle in 3D while you stand, and is used to assess deformity, arthritis and alignment before surgery.

Where clinically appropriate, scans can often be arranged at the same visit. If surgery is recommended, Mr Welck will discuss where your operation can take place and which options your insurer covers.

• By car: leave the M1 at junction 5, take the A41 towards Central London, then at the second roundabout take the first exit onto Elstree Road. Access is through The Waterfront Business Park only; there is no access from Centennial Park.

• Rail and Underground: Elstree & Borehamwood (Thameslink) is the nearest station. Stanmore (Jubilee line), Edgware (Northern line) and Bushey are also within a few miles.
