Background Information
- Osteonecrosis of the 2nd metatarsal head due to a disrupted blood supply.
- Patients typically complain of forefoot pain localised to the head of the 2nd MT, worse on weight-bearing activity.
- Examination may reveal swelling with limited ROM at the 2nd MTPJ.
Investigation Guidelines
- A radiograph is typically required for diagnosis.
Management Recommendations
- All patients with suspected freibergs disease should be referred for further assessment.
