A ruptured Achilles is one of the most commonly missed injuries in the emergency department, largely because most people can still walk on it. The bigger question, once it is diagnosed, is what to do next: an operation, or several weeks in a walking boot. The honest answer is that the two options are more evenly matched than they are often made to sound.
